Wars, climate change, populism – we live in a time of multiple crises
amplified by an unending stream of disturbing social media content.
Studies show the negative effects this can have on journalists’ mental
health. Still, only major news organizations provide psychological
support structures. Other journalists and especially freelancers are
left to handle things on their own. To build more inclusive support
schemes, this panel introduces an easy solution for the endemic mental
health burden in the industry: peer support. We’ll discuss how it works
and why it can be an easy fix for most of journalism’s global mental
health burden.
